Announcement from "Proud football players of APOEL"

‘’High-ranked Gentlemen’’ of Cyprus football and to all those who are involved in these absurd situations we have been witnessing over the last few days,
You have failed variously and miserably! As duly appointed representatives of the Federation, as the people entrusted with protecting institutional policies and the Law, as the people who should value football, humans, society and the coming generations above all else.

Unfortunately, through all this procedure we have been experiencing we seem to have lost track of the essence: HUMAN LIFE IS IN DANGER ON THE PITCH IN 2014! Our colleague and co-footballer, Kaka, was put in real and life-threatening danger on the pitch, but you gentlemen, seem to have chosen laxity, meetings, and most importantly you avoid any assumption of responsibility which is the foothold of a well-governed country.

Unfortunately, in this theatricality which you have chosen to set up, we are simply walk-ons but at the same time we are professionals with consciousness and dignity. This obliges us to step forward and take a stand in public in every direction, as football players of APOEL, the team which gloriously represented you at the greatest football stadiums of Europe, as well as being the team which is also responsible for the fact that Cyprus, for the first time in its history will have two representatives in Champions League. Can we pull this through and do we deserve this as a championship and as a country?

Because of what has already been mentioned we hereby inform you that:

1) We feel and are champions according to the clear rules and regulations of UEFA, FIFA and CFA since it is clearly stated that if a match is interrupted because of the injury of a player, referee, etc. the match and the three points should go in favour of the team that is not responsible for any of these. (It has, in any case, happened again in 2004, at a semifinal game of our team against AEL, the double was taken away from us, due to a lighter thrown on a referee’s head whilst winning with 1-0).

2) The championship title is decided on all 36 matches and the matter which had to be decided was the fate of this match which, had it been examined mid-way through the league, no one would hesitate to take this self-evident and logical decision. In this Championship league we have an unmatched defence and offence and at the same time this current year we won both the Cup and the Super Cup.

3) We are not afraid of ANYONE on the pitch and we have proven this several times, at least three times this year with the team in question which happens to be our opponent at the Championship league.

4) Our reactions are based on matters of safety of all players, coaches and everyone involved on the pitch. Our physical integrity is at risk and that is why we are wondering what would have happened if our colleague, Kaka, had lost his eye, his hearing or god forbid his life. Would you then have any doubts about what the outcome of the match should be? What matters is that we take pre-emptive action and avoid lamenting on ruins. Kaka was seriously injured, the rules were nullified and with your behaviour you have simply LEGALISED VIOLENCE on the pitch and you have given the opportunity to anyone who want to lewd against football.

5) We are so unjustly forced, due to your lack of responsibility, to play on Saturday the match which you have created due to your ‘’decisions’’, to prove once more that in football there still are professionals with clear conscience by doing anything that is possible within the pitch so that we can win this championship. We hope that all the hard work and sacrifices be justified within the pitch. We will all be present on Saturday with the proper mood, passion and determination that characterises us out of respect to our fans, our coaches, our board of directors, our families but football itself also. Besides, Kaka was the one who urged us to act in this way and to win this match since he has already departed for his country, Brazil, and this is what we promised to do once more!

As for you, good luck to anything you are still working on.
