Premiership stars´ miracle doc illegal
Kathryn Quinn
The backstreet Serbian clinic where injured Premiership stars have been treated with placentas is illegal, it emerged today (wednesday).
Arsenal star Robin Van Persie and Chelsea hero Frank Lampard have both been treated at the Belgrade clinic by oddball healer Marijana Kovacevic.
But now it has been revealed that her clinic is not officially registered with medical or business authorities and has never even paid taxes.
And local newspaper Danas claims her treatments with horse placenta are a fraud - which only mask the injuries without ever healing them.
"The concern is that they think they are healed and go back to playing and cause even more damage," said one doctor.
Van Persie hailed the healer "a miracle" after having horse placenta massaged into his injured ankle.
The Dutch international spent a whole day taking the bizarre treatment from Kovacevic, 42, and declared himself cured as he left.
"It's good - I am happy. The woman is a miracle," he told Serbian newspaper Alo as he left her home in Belgrade.
Locals pay just 50 GBP for a series of treatment with Kovacevic - but mega-wealthy soccer stars have been charged 5,000 GBP for just a few minutes.
And local medics are baffled by her claims to be able to heal with horse placenta.
Specialist Dr Moma Jakovljevic explained: "If she used human placenta it would be illegal but using animal placenta, well it just makes us a laughing stock. It can't have any benefit at all."
